Did you know that IFM’s operating costs are cove Did you know that IFM’s operating costs are covered by vendor fees, merchandise sales and pavilion rentals? And we’ve been self-sustaining since 1973 - celebrating our 50th anniversary this year! This is a true milestone, considering that IFM is one of only a few truly LOCAL PRODUCER ONLY markets in the State and is cooperatively operated by the vendor community. However, this also poses a challenge for initiating new programs and services. We take seriously our relationship with our community of vendors and customers as well as our commitment to business incubation; we can't just raise vendor fees to support new initiatives.
Instead, IFM established the Friends of Ithaca Farmers Market, a not-for-profit tax-exempt organization that can apply for grants and accept donations. This year’s grants sustained our Zero Waste Reusable Dish Program to reduce use of non-recyclable containers, revived the Downtown Tuesday Market at Dewitt Park and helped us archive our history and celebrate the Market’s 50th Anniversary.
In 2024, the IFM plans to continue the Zero Waste Reusable Dish Program, continue investing in Tuesday Market promotion, and start construction on our Parking lot …These projects are NOT supported by the vendor fees and rely on outside funds and donations from our community through individual donations and grants.
Can we count on you to make a tax-deductible donation to Friends of IFM to support these projects? Help make our market environmentally sustainable; provide an affordable venue for new farms, food and artisans to start in business;, and improve the accessibility and safety of the IFM Parking lot.
